Full Ketotifen Identification

Ketotifen is indicated as an add-on or prophylactic oral prescription in the chronic treatment of mild atopic asthmatic children. Also for the temporary prevention of itching of the eye due to allergic conjunctivitis (ophthalmic).
Ketotifen is indicated to relieve the itching of allergic pink eye. Ketotifen is in a class of prescriptions called antihistamines. It works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

A cycloheptathiophene blocker of histamine H1 receptors and release of inflammatory mediators. It has been proposed for the treatment of asthma, rhinitis, skin allergies, and anaphylaxis.

Ketotifen is contraindicated in persons with a known hypersensitivity to any component of this product.

Ketotifen comes as a solution to apply to the eye. It is usually applied to the affected eye(s) twice daily, 8 to 12 hours apart. To help you remember to use ketotifen, apply it around the same times every day.

To apply the eyedrops, follow these steps:

- Avoid touching the dropper against your eye or anything else.;
- Brace the remaining fingers of that hand against your cheek or nose.;
- Close your eye and press lightly against the lower lid with your finger for 2-3 minutes to keep the prescription in the eye. Do not blink.;
- Drop the indicated number of drops into the pocket made by the lower lid and the eye. Placing the drops on the surface of the eyeball can cause stinging.;
- Hold the dropper tip down at all times to prevent drops from flowing back into the bottle and contaminating the remaining contents.;
- Holding the bottle between your thumb and index finger, place the dropper as near as possible to your eyelid without touching it.;
- Lie down or tilt your head back.;
- Remove the protective cap. Make sure the end of the dropper is not chipped or cracked.;
- Replace and tighten the cap right away. Do not wipe or rinse it off.;
- Use a mirror or have someone else put the drops in your eye.;
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.;
- Wipe off any excess liquid from your cheek with a clean tissue. Wash your hands again.;
- With the index finger of your other hand, pull the lower lid of the eye down to form a pocket.;

Ketotifen is a fast acting non-competitive histamine antagonist. It inhibits the release of mediators from mast cells. It is a non-bronchodilator antiasthmatic drug (when taken orally).
